the family of abraham
This family never ceases to amaze me! They are always "helping God" out with their lies and deceipt and manipulation. When God makes a promise, He will see it through whether we understand how or not. He doesn't need our help, just our faith and obedience. God always chose unlikely people to do His will. He knows the heart and chooses from that aspect rather than outward appearances. We cause ourselves so much pain when we get in the way! It is easy to look at Abraham's family and criticize, but aren't we the same? We, also, get impatient and don't wait on God or try to force a situation that isn't right. God's way is always best and works so much better than our own!

Isaac and Rebecka
I was wondering today if Abraham's servant learned to trust in God from Abraham. He even prayed for help in finding Isaac's wife and later praised God for answering that prayer. I, also, thought that Laban's character is already coming through when he tries to delay their departure. Remember Laban is Jacob's father-in-law in the future and all of the tricks that he plays on Jacob. One other point I noticed was that even though this was an arranged marriage, Isaac loved her.

Week 1, more or less
Okay, it takes awhile to train yourselves in new habits. This one is new to me and so I am not that good at yet. I ahve been reading and taking notes thought. Today I thought I would just share my notes and not add much since I am bit behind.
Gen 4-6 the heart. Do what is right and you will be accepted. Sin must be mastered. God granted mercy and grace from the beginning. Speculation- Adam and Eve's children, other on earth, longevity, etc. These answers cant be proved and are not necessary to know for salvation. Geneologies always have hidden treasures. 1. Enoch did not die. 2. Prophecy that mankind would be saved through Noah.
Gen 6-9 God has always condemned intermarriage between believers and nonbelievers. God can be sad. Our sin causes him pain just like parents and children. God will not destroy the earth again until the end. He knows man is evil all the time. Eat meat but not blood. Man continues to struggle with sin almost as soon as they come out of the ark.
Gen 10-11 history, geneology
Gen 12-14 What did Abram think about these promises? He is 75 and has no children. Abram trusted God when moving to an unknown place. Why didn't he trust Him to protect them rather than lie? God still blessed him. Why did he give a 10th to Melchizedek?
Gen 15-17 Even thought Abram had begun to doubt and question, he believed God when he repeated the promise. He even asked for a sign.God makes a covenant with him and gives him more prophecy of his descendants. He promises all of the Canaanite land. Sarai's helpfulness. Attitude after plan works? Abram's reaction: joy or doubt?
Gen 18-19 At what point did Abraham know these me weren't ordinary men? What is the difference between Sarah's laughter and Abraham's in chap 17? Abraham walked and talked with God and even bargained with God. God listens. Lot's offering his daughters, wickedness or something more? Is he showing just how detestable their sin is? Who protects who? Lot hesitates. God is merciful. For Lot's sake or Abraham's? Lot's daughters.
Gen 20-21 Abraham lies again. Why? God always protects and blesses him in spite of his lies. Why? Isaac brings joy and laughter. Sarah's previous actions are still bringing her pain. Wait for God rather than take matters into your own hands. God still provides for Hagar and Ishmael.
Gen 22-23 Abraham believed that God would provide even though he didn't know exactly how. Abraham cared greatly for Sarah. The Hittites where Abraham lived at the time had great respect for Abraham.

Beginnings
Today is a new beginning, it is a new day, a new week, a new month, and a new year. WOW! Of all the things I do and have done in my life there is only one thing that matters.I want to leave a legacy for my children. When I went to grandmother's funeral a few years ago, the saddest part was that so many of my cousins had rejected the legacy that had been given them. My grandparents met in church as little children. The spent over 60 years together and raised 9 children. The have over 30 grandchildren plus lots of greats and soon great-greats. So many didn't take the baton of christianity and carry it on. That is the saddest story of all! I am greatly blessed that my father did accept the legacy and that I did as well. I want to hand it down to my children. I am very excited about reading through the Bible this year and hopefully hearing that you reading along with me. I pray for all of you everyday and sometimes more than once a day! Nothing else I do in this life will ever matter. Sharing the word of God is the only thing that is eternal.
Gen 1-3 the creation. God created everything in this world including man, woman and the institution of marriage. A few thoughts this morning:
1. What would the world have been like if man hadn't fallen (from Dad)?
2. I personally think that garden of Eden is what heaven will be like. The most important and exciting part is walking and talking with God. We can talk to him now, but imagine how it will be then to have a real conversation with him.
3. There are so many questions that people like to ask about the beginning, creation Adam and Eve, but scripture says that God has given us all we need for life and godliness. He has told us everything we need to know and nothing is left out that will keep us out of heaven. While it is fun to speculate on what could have been( like did they live in the garden for millions of years first?), it is not necessary for us to know. We have everything that is pertinent to our salvation.
3. My other thought was about marriage. God instituted marriage in the beginning and established what a godly home should look like. Everyone talks about Eve and her following Satan, but look what God says to Adam. "Since you listened to your wife" What was wrong with listening to his wife? Communication is important, right? However, he followed her down the wrong path. God gave the husband spiritual leadership of the family from the beginning. What a burden, but if he follows Christ, then a godly woman will have no problem following him. On the other hand, there is a lesson for all of us not to follow anyone down the wrong road. Study and know the scriptures for yourselves and stand for the right is important to both men and women.

Trying new things
I am new to this blog thing, but maybe it will be good to write. I really enjoy writing and my thoguhts are so much better when I can organize them by writing them down. Otherwise, they fly around in my head and make me crazy! The question is do I create a private blog and a professional blog and who do I invite to read it and what do I do with it exactly? So much to learn in the world of internet, but with my new profession which seems to be very internet driven and grown children that are all spread out, maybe it is time to learn. I will just play with this one for now and see what happens.
